Srinagar, Nov 07 (KNO): Amid freezing morning temperatures, parents of school children of winter zones of Kashmir division on Saturday demand for a change in school timings. The news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) received calls from several parents of school children—urging School Education Department to revise the timing in educational institutes of the region from 10 am to 3 Pm in Srinagar and 10:30Am to 3:30 outside the Srinagar Municipality Limits. One of the parents, Nasreena Jan said, “My two kids are primary-level students, and for more than a week now, they have been constantly telling me that they shiver in the cold when they leave for school.” She said, “There is a dire need for a change in school timing for the students. The winter has already arrived and the government must take a call on revising the school timing.” Another parent, Showkat Ahmad Dar narrated the same ordeal. He said, “As the new academic session started this week, the School Education Department must revise its current school timing in both the Srinagar and peripheries of Kashmir region.” Dar said, “Nothing is more important than the health and wellbeing of our kids. If the government does not change the school timing, I would prefer to keep my kids at home rather than risking their health.” The parents urged the government to revise the school timing. “In view of the cold temperatures in the morning, the government must change the school timing from 10 am to 3 Pm in Srinagar and 10:30 Am to 3:30 outside the Srinagar Municipality Limits. The School Education Department must prioritize the health and wellbeing of the students.” Pertinently, the government in mid-October had ordered a change in school timing for all government and private schools from October-15 asking schools falling in the Srinagar municipal limits to function from 10am to 3:30 Pm and 10: 30 am to 4 pm to the school falling outside the Srinagar municipal limits. —(KNO)
